Last evening we had a game at O'Neal Park and it was a late game starting at 8pm. When the game was over about 9:40 pm, we were leaving the stadium area and all the lights went out...total darkness. People trying to get down the bleachers and out to their cars and asking what happen? Can't see? In walking the road/path out of the park I stepped into a rut and went down. I am 69 years old and I thank God I was not seriously hurt. But people were using the light from cell phones to see, to help me and it was just dangerous. A situation which would not have happened if only the lights were kept on 15 to 20 minutes after the end of the game. After EVERY game the coaches review the game with the team for a few minutes and parents especially 10 year olds are going to stick around for their children. I know it was late and all of us want to get home but for SAFETY turning the lights off in a VERY DARK area was just stupid. Someone could have fallen on the bleachers, that road, anything could happen to cause a serious accident. The other issue was the bathroom by the ball field was locked and the only one open was by the pool. Quite a distance for young children at night to have to be taken to the bathroom.....another safety issue, I would not want to send my child by themselves.. Please re-think this standard, so we can all enjoy our city parks.
