The rooms are not family friendly at all! The recliner did not recline at all. I wound up on the cold hard floor with a sheet and 2 blankets. My child was told be glad and feel lucky your mom is in the room because normally parents sleep in a different room. She's 11 years old and was having anxiety because she was in an unfamiliar place with all of these tubes and wires and the tech felt this was appropriate to say to her. She also told my child they could remove me as well. You don't tell a child this no matter what age they are. She's never stayed anywhere unfamiliar to her, not even in a hotel. So to make these remarks, even if you are frustrated because you have to keep reminding her to lay on her side is just unacceptable. I would never leave my child unattended by sleeping in a different room, that would cause an already anxious child even more distress. When my 14 year old had her sleep test a few years back a cot was carted in for my husband and he never had an issue with the staff talking to her. They were kind, gentle and very patient with her. This time around it seemed as tho my 11 year old was being held to unrealistic standards. I almost stopped the test at one point because she was so anxious. She was sleep deprived and utterly exhausted and it was as though that was not being taken into consideration when dealing with her. If another sleep test is required I will be denying it and if demanded she will do it at home or another facility. Upon arriving the gentleman was rude and unattentive and didn't explain that your tech checks you in. He just stated sit down after I stated my daughters name 2 times for him. The expectations set by the paperwork you get doesn't really give you information on how this will go. Had there been another room available and I would have been told I can't be in the same room as my child this would have been unacceptable and we would have left. More information should be given to prepare parents and most definitely children. Expectations of the children just seem unreal. Lay still close your eyes go to sleep but only in these positions. By the way no sweating otherwise we have to come back and redo the paste and then make poor remarks to make the child feel bad when we have to come back in and redo the paste. Just a horrible experience and we will not be using this sleep center again.
